A small instruction for the noisy mind.

Sit somewhere quiet for thirty seconds.

Notice that you are thinking. Choose one thought as it arrives — anything. I should call my mother. That meeting at three. I want a coffee.

Watch the thought. Don't follow it. Don't argue with it. Just see it, the way you would see a leaf float past on a stream.

Notice that the next thought arrives. Watch that one too. Then the next.

Five thoughts is enough for the morning. You have just done a meditation.
